News: 2020 The Musical Announced for Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2023

The third addition to Thistle And Rose Arts’ Fringe programme is 2020: The Musical, the toe-tapping musical theatre extravaganza about those whose lives changed overnight when COVID-19 forced theatres to close. Based on her own true story, 2020: The Musical is written, choreographed and directed by West End star Natasha Mould.

You think you know this story, but you don’t.

This brand-new musical celebrates human joy and resilience in all its forms. From the West End stage to the shelves of Lidl, care homes to the doors of Number 10 – these are the uplifting and unexpected true stories of everyday heroes as you’ve never heard them before.

Main character Emily (Natasha Mould) finds a moment of joy with her elderly residents, having turned to caring from the West End when the theatres closed in 2020.

Featuring truly UNPRECEDENTED levels of talent, you’re invited to a heart-warming, toe-tapping, show-stopping party. And unlike Downing Street, everyone’s invited.

2020: The Musical was developed during lockdown by Natasha Mould with orchestration by Richard Vanryne. The first iteration of the show premiered at the Camberley, Leatherhead and Stag Theatres in Kent and was the first performance any of these venues had offered audiences since the pandemic began. Polly Sisley of Musical Theatre Review commented on the production’s inspiring effort to employ “eleven cast members, three tour technicians, three wardrobe and backstage staff and… three small theatres that have been closed for the best part of 12 months”.

Most importantly, as Polly writes, “2020: The Musical epitomises the one thing 2020 was so desperately lacking – just a bit of fun!”

2020: The Musical will play at Underbelly Bristo Square from the 14th to 27th of August at 3:55pm in the Cowbarn. For more information about the production, visit the show page here: thistleandrosearts.co.uk/2020-the-musical
